Program!

With the generosity and support from the Trillium Foundation, Retired Women Teachers of Ontario, KFL&A, Early Years Literacy, and LARC…

The Tales & Tunes for Tots project has been born!

This exciting project will promote the pleasure and benefits of reading to children from the time they are born onwards.  By encouraging parents to share a tale or tune with their child, our goal is to create

awareness of the importance of family literacy and how daily exposure to books and reading can positively impact the child’s school readiness skills.

Tales & Tunes for Tots will provide:

Newborn Literacy Kits containing books, musical CDs, rhymes, free gift voucher, and resources for new parents that are visited by a Health Nurse or who attend a LARC program in the Lennox & Addington area.

Vouchers for 18 month toddlers so they can attend the local library and receive their first library card, new book, literacy activity and toddler sized book bag.

Book Nooks in local medical centres that will provide resources for parents and also an area for children to sit, read, and enjoy the overall visit.

Information for new mommies and daddies about the programs offered by LARC and how they can attend and become involved.

Over the next two years, the Tales & Tunes for Tots project will reach over 1000 families and will benefit the community for years and years to come.  We are anticipating that as a result of this project, parents will take the time to create that special bond with their child through sharing a story, singing, or utilizing the resources provided by Tales & Tunes for Tots.  We look forward to getting this project underway and the seeing the wonderful impact Tales & Tunes for Tots will have on the children who are the reason for this great endeavour!

We would also like to send out a special welcome to our newest team member Jen Fitzpatrick who is our project coordinator for this wonderful project.
